When people sleep, upper airway stenosis or collapse occurs, leading to night sleep snoring and accompanied by apnea, which is OSAHS, also known as obstructive sleep apnea syndrome.

The typical symptoms of obstructive sleep apnea syndrome are snoring, daytime sleepiness, memory loss, dry mouth in the morning, and increased frequency of nocturia. In severe cases, it will affect normal life and work.

Sleep apnea causes recurrent nocturnal hypoxia, which can easily lead to complications such as hypertension, coronary heart disease, diabetes and cerebrovascular disease, traffic accidents, and even sudden death at night. Therefore, OSAHS is a potentially fatal sleep respiratory disease.

At present, it is generally believed that OSAHS is a systemic disease and an important cause of sudden death, so it is a serious social problem. At present, the prevalence rate of OSAHS in China is about 4%, and the actual prevalence rate may be higher. With the increasing number of overweight and obese people, the prevalence rate of OSAHS will increase.
